Welcome to Split Screen Politics! In this blog, I will take coverage of political events from different media sources and place them side by side. I will then compare and contrast the content of each source's coverage. My goal is to uncover the biases present in different media sources. I wish to encourage my readers to seek multiple sources and perspectives when consuming political news. 

Most of my posts will compare the coverage of different popular online news media sources. When deciding which two sources to compare, I will attempt to use those that have traditionally contrasting political viewpoints. I will use the AllSides Media Bias Chart as a basis for determining which news sources hold which viewpoints. 



I will also make periodical posts that compare political coverage on different social media accounts. My goal here will be to analyze how both politicians and regular citizens utilize social media to shape political narratives.



As we are in an election year, I may also include comparisons of the different candidates' use of media for campaign and advertisement purposes!

MSNBC v. The Daily Wire: DeSantis's Stance on Climate Change and Extreme Weather in Florida

  At a press conference this past Thursday in St Lucie County,  Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to suggestions that the recent series of extreme weather events in Florida was caused by global warming. DeSantis stated how extreme weather has happened throughout history and that the recent events are nothing new.  MSNBC: “As Florida reels from Hurricane Milton, DeSantis again dismisses the role of climate change”  At a press conference Thursday in St. Lucie County, DeSantis once again dismissed the impact of climate change even as the severity of damage caused by Hurricane Milton became clear.   “It is hurricane season. You are going to have tropical weather,” DeSantis equated hurricane-related conspiracy theories with scientists pointing out that human activity drives climate change. Newsmax v. USA Today: Speaker Mike Johnson announces transgender bathroom ban in Capitol

In this post, I will be looking at the differences between Newsmax and USA Today in their coverage of Mike Johnson's announcement of a transgender bathroom ban in the Capitol.   Newsmax :  "Speaker Brings Transgender Bathroom Ban to House" On Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La, announced a new policy that will prevent transgender women from using women's bathrooms on the House side of Capitol Hill. Prior to this, Rep.
